Chapter 10

“My mother wants you over for dinner.” His mouth was making its way down the length of her body and was making it very hard for her to breathe or think! He had come over when she left the center and she had just opened the door to let him in – just like that as if it was an automatic thing to do!

She fought the wave of incredible desire pouring through every inch of her body and dug her fingers through the lush hair to stop him. “I told you that I am not meeting your family.”

He planted a quick kiss on her flat stomach before easing his way up until he was face to face with her. “You are going to have to give me a very plausible reason why you keep saying that.”

“I don’t have to tell you anything,” she told him defensively, pushing at his solid chest. He did not budge an inch and she let her hands dropped. “We just met,” she added lamely, her eyes not quite meeting his.

“I said plausible and that’s not even in the ball field. Try again, darling.”

She met his eyes and her heart lurched at the blueness of them, the incredible light in the beautiful eyes. She spent almost every night with him and had gotten accustomed to it. More than accustomed! She needed him and that scared the hell out of her! “I am not ready.”

“When will you be?” he asked her calmly.

“I don’t have a timeframe,” she hedged.

“My little brother is home for the summer, and I would like you to meet him. Andre is a pain in the ass, but he is my brother, so he is included.” He trailed a finger over her cheek and caused the tremors to start up back again! “We have things that we do for the summer and I would like to include the woman I love.”

“Stop saying that!” she cried out, closing her eyes. “You don’t know me-”

“So tell me dammit!” His voice was impatient, his brows knotted as he stared at her. “Tell me who you are and let me get to know you.”

“I am damaged,” she whispered, her eyes shadowed.

“How?”

She pushed at him again, needing the space but he held on.

“No.”

She curled her fingers into his chest and heaved a sigh. “My father was a drunk and a very mean one.” Her breath hitched, and she swallowed before she continued, the words tumbling out. “He physically abused my mother and I every chance he got, and you want to know the worst part?”

“There is one?” He felt the anger shimmering inside him and the helplessness!

“My mother defended him, and I was left feeling as if it was all my fault. It went on for years and after he died, and I felt relief, I also felt guilt that I was happy he was not around anymore to abuse us. But my mother never accepted who he was and deluded herself into thinking he was a good man who had a rough time and did what he did because of it.
